Tracey Patete

Ngāti Koata, Ngāti Kuia

‘Whiria te tangata ka puta he oranga, whiria ngā mahi toi ka puta he tino rangatiratanga.’

Inspired by the qualities, forms and colours of Papatuānuku, Tracey Patete started weaving in 2010 and is a graduate of the Poutūarongo Toi Whakarākai degree from Te Wānanga o Raukawa. She is currently an online weaving tutor for Toi Whakarākai at Te Wānanga o Raukawa.

Fascinated by kete whakairo patterns, Tracey strives to further her learning through the study of ancestral techniques and patterns and took the opportunity of lock down to expand her knowledge of raranga design.

Recent exhibitions include:

Tiaho Mai, Kiwibank Paraparaumu

Te Ringa Māhorahora, Toi Matarau Gallery, Māoriland Film Hub, Ōtaki
